Welcome to the College of the Canyons Art Gallery’s 24th Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition submission portal! This competitive juried art exhibition honors outstanding COC student artists for their creativity and hard work. We are delighted to invite you to submit your artwork to be considered for our first virtual rendition of this important exhibition. Works selected for the exhibition will be exhibited on the COC Art Gallery website and also presented in a digital exhibition catalogue.

We are excited to announce that there are some new developments this year! We have expanded the categories of submission to allow a wider variety of art projects to be considered. We have also added more awards this year thanks to the generous support of the College of the Canyons Foundation Patrons of the Arts!

Our new Merit Awards were established to recognize the creative achievements and dedication of College of the Canyons student artists.

·       The Chancellor’s Merit Award ($250)

·       Patrons of the Arts Merit Award ($250)

·       Visual and Performing Arts Dean’s Merit Award ($250)

·       Juror’s Choice Merit Award ($250)

·       Student Art Exhibition Merit Award ($250)

Our Student Art Collection (SAC) Program continues this year. The SAC is a historic collection of remarkable artworks created by students at the college. Established in 2010, art works in the SAC are displayed publicly in College of the Canyons buildings. These works of art, selected by a campus-wide committee, serve to enhance and energize our public spaces and help create a cohesive record of excellence in the visual arts by COC students. Students who choose to have their art work considered for this award must understand that their art, if selected, becomes the property of the College of the Canyons. Artists will however maintain copyright of their images. Please read Terms and Conditions for further information.

·       Student Art Collection Awards ($500)

WHAT IS A JURIED EXHIBITION?
All artwork entered undergoes two rounds of jurying. The first round, is for inclusion in the exhibition and will be judged and selected by an outside art-world professional serving as the Exhibition Juror. This process,  called “jurying”  is a common selection process for creating exhibitions by competitive entry. In our show, the Exhibition Juror’s choices are not based on a set theme or criteria; but rather the Exhibition Juror evaluates artwork based on the strength of the artist's ideas and the realization of that idea in the artwork. The COC Art Gallery invites artists and curators from the wider Southern California community to serve as our Exhibition Juror, and we pick a new Exhibition Juror every year.

Once selected for inclusion in the exhibition, works undergo a second round of jurying to be considered for the Merit Awards and/or our Student Art Collection Awards. The second round is juried by our Student Exhibition Awards Selection Committee. This committee is made up of COC faculty, staff, and administrators; as well as representatives from the Foundation Patrons of the Arts.
